What is LE Audio?
LE Audio (Low Energy Audio) is a next-generation Bluetooth audio standard that delivers improved sound quality, better performance, and lower power consumption compared to classic Bluetooth audio.
LE Audio uses the LC3 codec, which provides:
Higher audio quality at lower bitrates
Improved battery efficiency
More reliable connections in crowded wireless environments
Support for multi-stream audio (independent left and right channels)
Both the audio source (phone, TV, computer) and the listening device (headphones, earbuds, hearing devices) must support LE Audio.
What is Auracast™?
Auracast™ is a feature built on LE Audio that allows a single audio source to broadcast audio to multiple listeners at the same time.
Instead of pairing one device to one headset, Auracast enables:
One transmitter
Unlimited compatible receiving devices
Easy “tune-in” style listening without traditional pairing
What are common uses for Auracast?
Auracast is designed for both personal and public listening scenarios, including:
TVs in homes, gyms, or waiting rooms
Airports, theaters, and public venues
Assistive listening applications
Group listening without sharing headphones
What devices support Auracast?
Auracast requires Bluetooth 5.2+ hardware with LE Audio enabled by the manufacturer. Not all Bluetooth 5.2 devices support LE Audio or Auracast.
Common Auracast-Capable Source Devices
Support varies by model and software version, but may include:
Android smartphones running Android 13 or newer (device-dependent)
Select Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel, and other Android devices that explicitly support LE Audio
Certain smart TVs, PCs, and dedicated Auracast transmitters
Some public-venue broadcast systems designed for Auracast
Note: Apple devices currently do not support Auracast.
Auracast-Compatible Listening Devices
LE Audio–enabled headphones or earbuds
Certain hearing aids and assistive listening devices
Products must explicitly list LE Audio or Auracast support
How do I connect using LE Audio?
Enable Bluetooth on your source device.
Put your LE Audio–compatible headphones into pairing mode.
Select the headphones from your Bluetooth menu.
If both devices support LE Audio, the connection will automatically use it.
How do I connect to an Auracast broadcast?
Enable Bluetooth on your device.
Open Bluetooth or audio settings.
Look for Auracast, Broadcast Audio, or Audio Sharing.
Scan for available broadcasts.
Select the broadcast you want to join.
Some broadcasts may require a QR code or PIN, depending on how the system is configured.
Does Auracast replace traditional Bluetooth pairing?
No. Auracast is an additional feature, not a replacement.
Traditional Bluetooth pairing is still used for private, one-to-one connections.
Is Auracast backward compatible with older Bluetooth devices?
No. Auracast and LE Audio are not compatible with classic Bluetooth audio devices. Both the transmitter and receiver must support LE Audio.
Why don’t I see Auracast on my device?
Possible reasons include:
Your device does not support LE Audio
LE Audio is not enabled by the manufacturer
Your operating system version does not support Auracast
The broadcast source is not currently active
